The gated, luxury community of Coto de Caza is an ideal location to purchase your dream equestrian estate. Coto de Caza horse properties range from single family homes costing just over one million, to lavish, multi million-dollar estates on large acreage. Most notably, the custom home sub-divisions of Los Ranchos Estates, The Village, The Woods, and The Forest. There are also a few equestrian zoned lots and vacant land parcels for sale.
Residents in Coto De Caza enjoy the use of the full service Coto Valley Equestrian Center. The riding center was used for modern equestrian pentathlon events during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The Center boards about 160 horses and includes five arenas and 47 miles of trails in the surrounding wilderness. It also includes complete training and riding facilities. With the cost of Orange County horse properties becoming increasingly unaffordable for many home owners, I have added horse properties in the Inland Empire. This includes the cities and areas of Corona, Murrieta, Norco, Wildomar, Temecula, etc. The prices for homes and horse properties in these areas is very attractive and they are still within easy driving distance of Orange County.
Rancho Carrillo* is a little-known mountain community located off of the Ortega Highway near San Juan Capistrano. The community consists of 75 ranches, each with a custom home. is an equestrian paradise. Many homes have lot sizes of 2 or more acres and they are available at a far more affordable price than comparable horse properties in Orange County. The community is accessed by entering a private gate off of the Ortega Highway a few miles outside of San Juan Capistrano. Once you enter the gate, you travel about 5 miles along a winding road until you reach the wooded plateau at Rancho Carrillo. Because it is located at a slightly higher altitude, you are greeted by an abundance of lush green fields and foliage.
Because there are only 75 ranches, homes in Rancho Carrillo come up for sale only occasionally. When they are listed in the MLS, some agents prefer to enter the listing within the city of San Juan Capistrano, but technically the community is just over the OC border into Riverside County. More likely, a home for sale will be listed in Riverside County in the region of "Ortega Mountain". Also located off of the Ortega highway, Rancho Capistrano is a gated community of 133 home sites, each consisting of around 2.5 acres. The community sits at an elevation of 3,200 feet above sea level, so it is above the smog level. The custom homes range between 1,800 to large estate sized homes of over 5,000 sq ft. Nearly everyone here has horses and you can also keep other animals, like goats, pigs, chickens, etc. The price for a 2+ acre horse property is extremely affordable! Fallbrook and Bonsal are two small towns in North San Diego County that are known for having some of the best equestrian acreage and at great values! Fallbrook is known for its avocado groves and it is often called or known as "The Friendly Village". There are many great equestrian properties for sale in this town and most are on 2 or more acres at great prices. Bonsall is a very small town located just east of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton, north of Vista and northwest of Hidden Meadows. There are some wonderful horse properties in this area and they are also a great value.
